Ulster Unionist MP Danny Kinahan has described the call for a second Scottish independence referendum by Nicola Sturgeon as ‘entirely predictable.’
The South Antrim MP said:
“I am afraid that Nicola Sturgeon’s call for a second independence referendum is disappointing but entirely predictable.
“It was little more than two years ago when the people of Scotland voted decisively that we are a better together within the United Kingdom. It is unfortunate that she is using Brexit as an excuse in what is clear political opportunism.
“If there is another independence referendum we will not be found wanting in making the case for all the positive benefits that the Union continues to provide, in so many ways, not just for Scotland, but for all of us right across the United Kingdom.
“As for Sinn Fein jumping on the bandwagon and calling for a border poll, have they not destabilised Northern Ireland enough? They would be better served concentrating on establishing a working Northern Ireland Executive rather than agitating for a United Ireland
“They have shown a clear disregard for making Northern Ireland work, so I am not surprised by their latest political stunt.”
