DUP blunders facilitated Boris Johnson`s dreadful Brexit deal – Aiken

Ulster Unionist Chief Whip, Steve Aiken OBE MLA, has stated that as Boris Johnson visits Northern Ireland, he will go down in history as the Prime Minister who was prepared to cut us loose as the ransom paid to deliver Brexit for the rest of the United Kingdom.

Mr Aiken said:

“Boris Johnson could have been coming to Northern Ireland as a Prime Minister who was recognised as a champion for the Union, but instead he will go down in history as a man who cannot be trusted and who was prepared to sell off Northern Ireland as the ransom to deliver Brexit. Boris Johnson`s version of Brexit will only apply to the rest of the United Kingdom while Northern Ireland is cut loose with a border up the Irish Sea.

“He was however aided and abetted by the DUP politicians who broke their promises to the electorate when they supported and endorsed Mr Johnson`s regulatory border in the Irish Sea on the 2 October. It was this strategic blunder which gave Boris Johnson the encouragement to push on with his dreadful Brexit deal. To date there has not been one word of apology or even a sign of humility from the party that were the Conservatives` partners in the Confidence and Supply Agreement.

“Only weeks after the DUP gave Mr Johnson a rousing welcome at their reception at the Conservative Party Conference, I take it this time they won`t be rolling out the red carpet, getting their photographs taken on the balconies of Stormont or hosting private dinners?”
