Ulster Unionist leader, Steve Aiken OBE MLA, has condemned Sinn Fein for sowing more fear and uncertainty in the community by disregarding medical and scientific advice in the fight against Coronavirus.
Mr Aiken said:
“Michelle O’Neill`s U-turn on a united Executive response to dealing with Coronavirus is shameful and utterly reckless. Sinn Fein have created more fear and uncertainty. They are playing party politics with health and that is utterly reprehensible.
“It fundamentally undermines the credibility and integrity of the Executive. All parties should be led by the medical advice and guidance, not the whim of Michelle O`Neill or Mary Lou McDonald. Neither of them are medical or scientific professionals.
“Michelle O`Neill`s decision to ignore medical and scientific advice because Sinn Fein believe they know better could make a bad situation far worse. People should ignore Sinn Fein and follow the advice of professionals. The closure of schools at this stage could be counterproductive in the fight against Coronavirus. There is no doubt schools will close at some stage, but the timing of those closures should be guided by the medical and scientific experts, not by Sinn Fein politicians seeking to politicise public health.”
