Ulster Unionist Health spokesperson, Alan Chambers MLA, has stated that Michelle O`Neill`s expressions of regret around the attendance at Bobby Storey`s funeral undermining the public health message are over two months late.
Alan Chambers said:
“Michelle O`Neill`s carefully crafted comments lack sincerity and are over two months late. It has taken the Sinn Fein leader 72 days to even acknowledge the damage that she and her colleagues have done to the public health message by Sinn Fein`s blatant breaching of Coronavirus guidelines at Bobby Storey`s funeral, whilst other bereaved families abided by both the letter and spirit of the regulations and guidelines. And still no proper apology. Sorry seems to be the hardest word for Michelle O’Neill and Mary Lou McDonald to say. John O`Dowd`s stumbling interview on Good Morning Ulster will do nothing to assure the wider public of Sinn Fein`s sincerity.
“We are still dealing with Covid-19 and there will be big decisions in the months ahead. The public will need to see responsible leadership like that that has been shown by the Health Minister Robin Swann. Whether Sinn Fein can deliver that remains very much open to question. Will they abide by the Executive`s regulations or will they play fast and loose with them? The choice is theirs.”
