The Deputy Leader of the Ulster Unionist Assembly Party, Danny Kennedy MLA, has appealed to Unionists all over Northern Ireland to turn out in strength at the European Election and support Jim Nicholson as their No. 1 candidate and give support to the other Unionist candidates standing to ensure the election of two pro Union representatives over the next 5 years.
Mr Kennedy said he believed Jim Nicholson was the best Unionist candidate in the election, with a proven track record of dedicated service and experience which would be fully maximised as part of a larger Conservative, right of centre, group operating in Brussels ensuring that Northern Ireland's interests were not sidelined or ignored.
Mr Kennedy emphasised the need for the Unionist electorate to vote for all other Unionists on the ballot paper (in order of their preference) to ensure the retention of two pro Union representatives in Europe, and he expressed the hope that once the election was over, the Unionist representatives would work closely together for the benefit of all of the people of Northern Ireland.
Mr Kennedy said he had been very encouraged at the positive response the Jim Nicholson campaign was receiving "at the doors" throughout Northern Ireland and he said he hoped that would be reflected in a high turnout and a clear message of support for his Party.
